What are the seven perspectives of psychology?
The post defines psychology as the scientific study and exploration of human behaviour. The definition covers conscious and unconscious elements, plus the emotions and thoughts attached to them. It then names seven perspectives.
- Psychodynamic. Freud’s work. Early childhood experiences, the unconscious mind and relationships shape behaviour. The model has three elements: id, ego and superego.
- Cognitive. The mental processes behind thinking, decision-making and problem-solving, and how the mind takes in and uses information.
- Behavioural. Learned behaviour, and how people acquire and reinforce it.
- Cross-cultural. How culture shapes behaviour and thinking, with individualistic and collectivistic cultures as the two components.
- Biological. Physical factors such as genetics and brain damage, studied with tools like MRI and PET scans.
- Humanistic. Personal growth, motivation and self-actualisation.
- Evolutionary. Mental processes exist because they evolved to serve functions such as survival and reproduction.
Which perspectives show up in the clinic’s therapies?
The psychologist page names three directly. Psychodynamic therapy explores how past experiences shape present behaviours and emotions. Cognitive therapy identifies and restructures negative thought patterns. Behavioural interventions include behavioural modification, relaxation techniques and exposure therapy.
Profiles show the same range. Dr Rudy Abi Habib is a Senior Clinical Psychologist and Psychodynamic Psychotherapist. Nazanin Sadegh Pour names CBT as her primary modality. She adds psychodynamic and analytical approaches when deeper exploration of past experiences helps.
The clinic’s service pages do not name the humanistic or evolutionary perspectives as treatment methods. The individual therapy page lists a wider menu: CBT, ACT, Narrative Exposure Therapy, EMDR, emotion-focused, compassion-focused and psychodynamic approaches.
Why does the cross-cultural lens matter in Dubai?
The clinic’s about page says its team delivers therapy in English, Arabic, French, Russian, Italian and Urdu. It works with Emirati and expatriate families and with medical visitors to the UAE. The couple therapy page promises a culturally sensitive environment suited to Dubai’s diverse community. Mira Nasr’s profile cites a broad cross-cultural perspective after she lived, studied and worked in more than 15 countries.
The post names individualistic and collectivistic cultures but never says how a session handles the difference. My view: ask about the lens anyway. A decision may look like loyalty in one household and pressure in another.
How does a clinical psychologist choose between lenses?
The psychologist page says psychologists assess mental health through tests, interviews and observation. They then use the findings to diagnose and build treatment plans. The individual therapy page says each clinician adapts the approach to the client’s presenting issues.
The biological lens has a clear partner. The clinic’s FAQ says a psychologist provides therapy and assessment but cannot prescribe medication. A psychiatrist can. Many patients see more than one specialist at once, and the clinical team coordinates their care. My reading: the biological lens is where a psychiatrist joins the team.
My reading: a perspective is a lens, not a treatment. The post defines the lenses and leaves the choosing to the clinician. Ask your psychologist which lens is doing the work in your plan.
