What is it?

Anxiety and OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder) are two distinct mental health conditions that can have significant impacts on an individual’s daily life and well-being.
Anxiety is a natural response to stress or danger, but for individuals with anxiety disorders, this response can be exaggerated and persistent, even in the absence of a real threat. Anxiety disorders can take different forms, including Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Panic Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder and others. Common symptoms of an anxiety disorder include excessive worry, restlessness, irritability, difficulty concentrating and physical symptoms such as muscle tension and fatigue.

OCD is a type of anxiety disorder that is characterized by obsessions and compulsions. Obsessions are intrusive, persistent, and distressing thoughts, images or impulses that can interfere with an individual’s daily activities and relationships. Compulsions are repetitive behaviours or mental acts that an individual feels compelled to perform to alleviate the anxiety caused by the obsessions. Common obsessions and compulsions can include fear of contamination, excessive cleaning, checking behaviours and mental rituals.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Treatment

Both anxiety and OCD can have a significant impact on an individual’s daily life, relationships and overall well-being. OCD and anxiety treatment is available and often effective, especially if started early after the symptoms appear or the diagnosis is made.

Treatment for anxiety disorder and OCD can vary depending on the severity of symptoms and the individual’s needs and preferences. Some common treatments for anxiety and OCD include psychiatric medication such as antidepressants, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy(CBT), exposure therapy and lifestyle modifications such as exercise, relaxation techniques and healthy sleep habits.

Next Step

If you believe you may have anxiety, phobia, PTSD, obsessive-compulsive and related disorders you can schedule a consultation with one of our psychiatrists or one of our psychologists. If you are under 18 years of age or are a parent to a child who you believe has one of these conditions you should schedule the consultation with our child psychiatrist.

In all cases, it does not mean you will have to commit to treatment, either through medication or another form of therapy. The clinician will listen to your problems, make a diagnosis and suggest the most suitable treatment options for you to choose. If you are scheduling for a relative please ensure that they are aware of the appointment. For further advice contact our coordinator on info@thevalensclinic.ae or call.800-Valens.
