10 Proven Ways
Practice Emotional Self Care
Self-care is a lifelong journey that requires consistency. Once you start taking care of yourself, you can’t help but enjoy it. Self-care may include staying fit, taking care of your skin, visiting spas, getting a haircut, treating yourself to delicious meals, and more. However, amidst all this, we may neglect our emotions. Is emotional self-care important? Yes, absolutely! In order to function properly and live a peaceful life, looking after our emotional health is immensely important.
We are human beings and we encounter different emotions every day. If we do not pay attention to what our emotional health demands, we can easily fall prey to mental health problems especially these days when depression is dangerously common. Emotional self-care is about being aware of our feelings and understanding our responses to certain emotions.
How Can You Practice Emotional Self-Care?
You will see your life change when you start practicing emotional self-care. It is important to understand that we are made up of our thoughts and if our thoughts are out of place, it reflects on everything we do. Therefore, we have emotional self-care examples to help us fight our inner conflicts and live better.
Forgiveness
Forgiveness is difficult but it lets you free from within. Forgiving ourselves is more difficult than forgiving others. We are always so hard on ourselves that we do not let go of the small mistakes we have made and this is the baggage we carry inside ourselves all our lives. This is the time to let go of every past trauma, mistake, and experience we have encountered, learn from them, and move on. Our mental health relies on how we treat ourselves so, if you treat yourself like a criminal from within, let it go.
Meditation
Meditation is one of the truest emotional self-care examples. We have to take a few minutes out of our busy lives, relax, and meditate. It is better if we start our day with meditation. Start by taking deep breaths and allow ourselves to release all the stress, process your thoughts, and repair your body.
No Comparison or Judgments
If we want to have a peaceful mind, we have to stop comparing ourselves to others. Comparison will never let us have internal peace. If we keep an eye on what others have that we don’t, we are damaging ourselves. Have you ever wondered how the whole world would be at peace if all of us kept our judgments aside? Judgment is us putting out our negative energy, jealousy, and just bad thoughts out there. When we judge people, we may project our inner unhappiness on other people. It may feel good but it is the most damaging thing we can do to ourselves.
Practice Gratitude
We complain a lot in our heads, right? One simple thing goes wrong and we complain about it. How about we change it to practicing gratitude for what we have? Gratitude fills us with positivity and that’s what our emotional care needs. It is a reminder to ourselves that we have so much to be thankful for. We should take some time out of our day and be thankful to god for every small or big thing he has bestowed upon us.
Positive Self Talk
We do not talk to anybody as much as we talk to ourselves. How about we change these talks to positive affirmations? We tend to internalize our thoughts and believe them to be true. This is the reason many people don’t do what they wish to because their inner voice tells them that they can’t do it. We can start by choosing a few positive affirmations that hold true to us and repeat them inside our heads.
Start Working Out
Exercise has an emotional impact as well. It is a great therapy and allows us to relieve stress. If we don’t want to get into a hardcore workout, we can go out for a walk or run, but we must do it every day.
Me Time
As much as our work and social life are essential, our me-time is equally important. Me time is our personal time in which we can do anything for ourselves that we wish to. This time should be all about us only. We can paint, write, sew, dance, read, and do anything that makes us happy.

Feel What You Are Feeling
We must not under any circumstances try to suppress our emotions. If we are sad, we should feel sad. If we are angry, we should feel angry. We shouldn’t stop ourselves from how we actually feel. Feel what we are feeling but do not dwell on it for too long. We must bounce back.
Ask for Help
For the longest time, we believed that asking for help makes us weak. Not anymore! Asking for help is an act of bravery, it shows that we are not a quitter and we are trying to get better. We can get help from the trusted people around us. If nothing, therapy is always the best option.
Find Right People
We tend to behave like people we socialize with which is why having the right company is super important. It is important for us to stay connected with people who have a positive impact on us, who help us to be better and grow instead of those who pick flaws in us and make us feel insecure.
In a Nutshell
Life is hard for all of us. If we bog down ourselves with all the negative energy, we will live a very unfulfilling life. Positive life comes from a positive mindset and it comes from practicing emotional self-care. Start with one emotional care activity every day because we deserve a life we love.
