Clinical Psychologist's Broken-Leg Test

Meditation, yoga and massage can sit comfortably next to a clinical psychologist in Dubai. They do not replace one. The Valens Clinic makes the point in its article on holistic mental health with a broken leg. See a doctor for the X-ray and the cast, then add nourishing food, exercise and massage, which may help with pain, stress and healing. The clinic says the same approach could work for anxiety and depression.

What a clinical psychologist adds

At The Valens Clinic, a psychologist assesses, diagnoses and treats mental health concerns through talk-based therapy and psychological testing. The clinic lists anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties and everyday stress among the concerns a psychologist helps with, and it frames the goal as practical, measurable improvement. An assessment comes first. The clinician then schedules a follow-up, refers you to a colleague or makes recommendations.

Methods include cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, EMDR and psychodynamic therapy. The clinician selects one, or a blend, to suit your diagnosis and goals. A psychologist cannot prescribe medication. A psychiatrist can, and the clinic says many patients work with the two together.

What a wellness routine adds

The clinic’s holistic article lists meditation and yoga, acupuncture and massage, and fitness and nutrition sessions among popular holistic methods. It credits meditation and yoga with building awareness of mind and body. It says fitness and nutrition sessions help patients build habits around energy, sleep and mood. The article’s broken-leg example places all three alongside medical care.

The broken-leg test in four questions

The clinic names persistent low mood, anxiety, stress, relationship strain and difficulty coping with daily life as common reasons to see a psychologist. Its article on clinical psychology adds a time marker: low mood, anxiety or worry lasting several weeks deserves professional attention. Support also helps after grief or a hard transition, even without a diagnosed condition.

Four questions turn the guidance into a test. Has the problem lasted several weeks? Does it get in the way of work, sleep, relationships or daily tasks? Has the routine you already follow changed it? Would a diagnosis or a medication review change what you do next? A yes to the first two, or a no to the third, is a reasonable cue to book an assessment. The questions are a rule of thumb, not clinical criteria, and an assessment can still end with recommendations only.

How to check a clinical psychologist’s licence

Each Valens profile shows a licence number under Licensed by. On the Business Bay team, the four clinicians titled Clinical Psychologist list DHA numbers, and the four titled Psychologist list CDA numbers. The site does not explain the difference, so ask the team what each licence covers.

Titles can blur the picture too. Nazanin Sadegh Pour holds the Clinical Psychologist title with a DHA licence. Her profile lists personality and neuropsychological assessment alongside sport psychology, life coaching and career counselling.

A practical order for combining care and routine

Book the assessment first, and keep the routine going between now and the first session. Tell the clinician what you do each week, so the plan can account for it. If medication enters the picture, psychologists and psychiatrists at the clinic work together where needed.

Tell the team about your routine

Email info@thevalensclinic.ae with your main concern and the routine you already follow. The team can help you find the right clinician, usually within one working day. The Valens Clinic operates under Dubai Health Authority (DHA) licensing, and its Jumeirah site holds Community Development Authority (CDA) approval.
