Narrative Exposure Therap

Clinical Psychologist Duba

Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET) is a therapy built around the stories people tell about themselves. A clinical psychologist in Dubai who offers it can guide you through the roots of a negative narrative and help you rebuild the story with context, facts and feelings put back in. The Valens Clinic lists NET among the eight approaches its clinicians use.

What is narrative identity, and why does it matter?

The clinic’s post starts from the idea of a narrative identity: the collection of personal stories at the core of who you are. Each story shapes how you react and behave. The post’s example is a person with confidence issues, whose life narrative keeps reinforcing a sense of inadequacy. NET, the post says, is a way to rewrite the stories behind your reactions, behaviours and self-perception.

Why does the mind replay the worst scenes?

In the post’s account, the mind carries a critical streak as a form of protection. In modern life, it adds, the same trait can replay negative scenarios and self-defeating narratives on a loop. The loop offers little gain and can feed a cycle of emotional distress.

What does a clinical psychologist in Dubai do in narrative exposure therapy?

The therapy starts with a guided exploration of where a negative narrative began. You acknowledge the emotional responses attached to it. Then you and the psychologist rebuild the story gradually, in a more compassionate light.

The goal is accuracy. The post asks for a narrative closer to reality, with context, facts, feelings and emotions put back in. Cheerfulness is not on the list.

Is narrative exposure therapy for trauma or for self-criticism?

The clinic describes NET in two ways. Its blog post frames the therapy around negative self-narratives and low confidence. On the individual therapy page, the FAQ lists narrative exposure therapy for trauma, and the page names trauma-focused therapies and EMDR separately. Nothing on the website reconciles the two descriptions.

In practice, the assessment settles the question. At the first appointment, a mental health professional assesses your needs and develops a personalised treatment plan, and the FAQ page says a therapist may combine techniques as new information emerges. If you are unsure whether your concern is trauma, a low sense of self-worth, or a mix of the two, say so when you book.

How do you find a clinical psychologist in Dubai who offers it?

The psychologist page says a psychologist at the clinic assesses, diagnoses and treats mental health concerns using talk-based therapy and psychological testing, and cannot prescribe medication. The individual therapy page lists four clinical psychologists: Dr Rassil Ghazzaoui, a Senior Clinical Psychologist, and clinical psychologists Yara Sawan, Nazanin Sadegh Pour and Dr Rudy Abi Habib. It also lists five other specialists, four psychologists and one educational psychologist.

No page names the clinician who offers NET. The site says clinicians have training in multiple approaches, NET among them, and the FAQ page says the coordinator works with you to find the most suitable clinician for your schedule. Ask when you book. Every clinician holds a licence from the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) or the Community Development Authority (CDA).
